I've seen quite a bit of discussion about Hot Hide Glue, and I've been wondering if any of you guys have seen or used Titebonds Liquid Hide Glue;



Is it comparable to HHG?

You can glue on your labels with it, maybe even a rosette or other non-stressed part, but for brace/body/bridge/etc assembly...get the heating pot out.

sometimes it won't cure at all. when first i saw some i used it to glue some inlay paterns to pearl blanks. it never really hardened off, and made it impossible to saw; just clogged the blade.

don't waste your money.

I've tryed it and I found just like Michael, it didn't ever set up or harden. It was a mess and just didn't work at all.

Don't know why they keep making it, someone must use it for something

Thanks for the very informative, yet concise, response. I'll avoid it like the plague. I'll just use Titebond original and HHG.

Where can you get HHG granules in Oz anyway? I don't think I've seen them anywhere before. Of course I haven't really looked to hard as I wanted to used the liquid stuff .

How long will 1lb last? Or how many guitars will 1lb make is probably a better question.

I'm guessing that the shelf life is good in granular form.

I may find a use for that baby bottle steriliser after all! Chuck some marbles in the bottom, and I've got a you beaut Hide Glue Heating Pot.

Hi Joel

1lb is about 450grams.

I just mixed up 40 grams and have done two soundboards, bracing, a couple of bridges plus a few other miscellaneous jobs with it and I've still got half of it left !!!

So you'll get quite a few guitars out of a pound depending how you approach it.

We use Titebond for backs, linings, necks etc but anything to do with the top we use HHG. Others use HHG exclusively. Some use Titebond or LMI white.

I ordered 4lbs of it a few months ago so I'm not going to run out in the near future.

Most of the stuff I've seen in Oz is joiners pearl glue
which doesn't give you a gram strength rating and it stinks.

192gram high clarity should do the job for you. LMI supply it. I get mine from Tools for Working with Wood
in the States
